A Beginner’s Guide to Graded Cards
What grading can and cannot tell a collector.
Professional grading typically evaluates authenticity and physical condition, then encapsulates the card with a label and certification number.
A grade can make condition easier to compare, but it does not guarantee future market value.
Different grading companies can use different standards, and two cards with the same numerical grade may still look different.
Before paying a premium, decide whether you value protection, registry participation, resale convenience, or simply the card itself.
